LIMINAL LAYERS
THE STUDY It is about the ordinary elements, about facades of Jerusalem. We tend to oversee them because they are so normal, whereas they are obligated to inhabit many features. Furthermore they do not define a liminal space between building and physical realm. Quite the contrary, their threshold consists of many layers which blur the line of edges.
This ambiguous line conceals another kind of facade which is dedicated to its invisible inhabitation as well as representation. By investigating the meaning of ordinary facade elements in terms of basic needs and its connection to 21st century society, the liminal space unveils another perception of our city and its dwellers.
Staging something like a „kaleidoscope“ could expand the way of looking at the ordinariness of city and the means by which 21st century society transforms it. The utopian vision lies in the re-routing of our awareness towards inhabitation of layers and societies demand in everyday life.

PILGRIMAGE TO THE ORDINARY
THE UTOPIAN SCENARIO Religious objects are present everywhere in the city; Mezuzah at the door frame, David Star on Israeli flag, Kosherness at McDonald’s. By linking the ordinary elements to higher meaning, which they definitely inherit deep down, an artificial belief is created. This artificial belief by all means can help you to escape the religiousness of Jerusalem while it is re-routing your attention towards the urban artefact and altogether towards the marks of society in the urban construct.
Therefore the project of the „Pilgrimage to the Ordinary” is being invented. The project proposes a re-engagement with the facades of Jerusalem and its elements as votive offerings to build up a shrine. An institution with the potential to contemplate on our world, which is laced with technical interventions and filled with nowadays essential matters.
